Can this be true?
Read here how Jane Tomlinson couldn't get tykerb (lapatinib) locally in the last months of her life.
The husband of charity fundraiser Jane Tomlinson said yesterday that his late wife had been "fundamentally let down" when her NHS Trust said it would not fund a £6,700 life-prolonging cancer drug.Mike Tomlinson said his gravely ill wife had to travel from Leeds to Nottingham to receive the cancer drug Lapatinib.
He described her predicament in which she had to make a 150-mile round trip as "inhumane" and called on the Government to make sure all patients had access to life-extending drugs.
I showed all my visitors in hospital my bottle of lapatinib tablets (huge great orange things), with the clearly printed words at the bottom, "Made in Ireland". I buy my tablets in Israel, and Anthony's son Max posts them to us here, which is ludicrous enough for a drug made in this country. It is almost unbelievable that Jane Tomlinson had to go through travelling hoops to get the tablets. Reading about her feats of courage is one thing; but when, like me last week, you are winded after walking down three stairs, and walking up those stairs again is beyond possibility, it is beyond amazing to understand what she accomplished.
