These are the cookies I write about in TOYPD, that my friend Elly made for me when I was first diagnosed. This is her recipe below. If you google "chocolate crinkles" you get other recipes and good pictures, and I have a different recipe which I'll post another time. But this is Elly's...!
6 oz. sugar
6 oz. self-raising flour
4 oz. chocolate
2 1/2 oz. butter or margarine
pinch of salt
Melt chocolate with butter/marg.
Beat in egg and sugar
Add salt and flour
It will make a stiff dough. (My mother always refrigerates the dough at this stage, I think.)
Roll pieces of dough into large marbles, and roll each marble in icing sugar (this is how you get the crinkle effect).
Bake at 180 degrees 15-20 minutes (depends on oven).
Elly says take off tray while still warm so they don't stick.
